For Business Start Ups

Let’s get your business started with ADSL… ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) 2 carries data over the existing copper phone lines direct from the exchange to your offices, so all you need to get started is an operational phone line.

Why ADSL may be good for start-ups?

Our ADSL2 connection offers relatively high speeds and reliability with an elevated contention ratio (which means it will work well for a small number of business users). This operates over our business only network, which makes our business ADSL line the perfect start-up connection for your company, leaving you to get on with running your business headache free. If you are starting your business this is a workable low cost option to get you going.

What is a Contention Ratio?

Contention ratio refers to how much of bandwidth is shared between users.

For instance, a 20:1 contention ratio means if there are 20 users on the network at once, they will each have about a 1m/bit connection. The term ‘network’ refers to the internet space ISPs assign to the users. This system usually works without problems but relies on users making reasonable (not high) traffic demands on the network. If a user is a heavy downloader, he will eat into the other users’ bandwidth potentially causing some inconvenience for others.

So what does this mean for you? When it comes to the contention ratio, keep in mind your service will be better if the rate is lower. With a low contention ratio, more bandwidth will be available to individual users on the network at any time. A contention rate of 8:1 or less is excellent. Anything under 10 seems impressive from ISPs. An ISP (“Internet Service Provider”) provides access to the Internet. Whether you’re at home or work, each time you connect to the Internet, your connection is routed through an ISP. Most services offer something in the range of 20:1 to 50:1. We offer an equivalent contention ratio of 5:1.

ADSL 2 + Converged is an IP ready connection

IP (The Internet Protocol) is the method or protocol by which data is sent from one computer to another on the Internet. Each computer (known as a host) on the Internet has at least one IP address that uniquely identifies it from all other computers on the Internet.

ADSL 2 + Converged is a connection that is configured specifically for a cloud based phone system (also known as VOIP), it is designed to carry IP voice traffic and data through one connection allowing you to operate up to 10 VoIP channels whilst ensuring you maintain fast internet access.

Essentially a converged system does not allow the voice and data to conflict so will provide a faster service than ADSL. The easy way to remember the difference is that data and voice converge into one but maintain their separateness. ADSL 2 operates through the existing copper phone lines direct from the exchange to your premises, so all you need to get started is an operational phone line. As IP voice traffic is prioritised, ADSL 2 is the perfect entry level IP ready connection.

The maximum upload speed of ADSL 2+ and 2+converged is 1.3Mbbps, with a download of 24Mbps.
